We have used promoter trapping as one technique to identify genes expressed in specific plant tissues, and in particular in or around feeding sites induced in roots of Arabidopsis plants infected by pathogenic nematodes. The promoters of these genes represent useful tools to drive the expression of genes that interfere either with feeding site formation or with the nematode itself, so reducing nematode infectivity.
